Our mail delivery is after 3 so I just don’t bother to look until then. Every 5 minutes he asks if I checked for mail. Starting from the moment he comes home he obsesses about the mail. He asks a million times if the bus is bringing him home again.Īfternoon – He comes home about 1:00. His bus usually comes between 9:30 and 10 but by 9:15 he’s talking about how his bus has “never come this late before”. Morning – Dad looks at his calendar every 10-15 minutes to find out when his bus is coming to take him to the senior center for lunch. A typical day in my life will involve at least one of the following events. I watch the repeated actions and feel my blood pressure rise. I focus on making sure he has eaten, bathed, taken his meds, put on clean clothes, and so many more details most of us don’t think about. My coworker was talking to a camper that morning as we walked to the school cafeteria for snack and she said “Dory is so forgetful and it’s pretty funny.” The thought that immediately struck me was “memory loss isn’t funny!” It occurred to me that the idea of laughing at someone who can’t remember what happened 2 minutes ago, let alone what happened last year was bothering me.
